The Quicktime "Xtra" |
One thing to note is that Director uses a QuickTime Asset ‘Xtra’ to import and play QuickTime and QTVR videos. The QuickTime Player MUST be installed in order to play QuickTime content inside of a Director movie,as Director uses the Quicktime technology to display the video - it acts as a host. Also, the QuickTime Asset Xtra must be available for a ‘projector’ (executable) or Shockwave movie in order to use QuickTime content. What are Xtras? Xtras are software components that extend Director's functionality; some Xtras are installed with Director (the Quicktime Xtra being one example) and others are available through third-party developers (if you decide to use the advanced functionality of the QTVR 2 Xtra, this is one such example)....sometimes at cost. You must distribute any Xtra that a movie requires along with the movie itself. Xtras can be packaged with projectors, or your user can download your required Xtras from the Internet. If your user is missing an Xtra that Director requires, an alert appears when the movie opens. For missing Xtra transition cast members, the movie performs a simple cut transition instead. For other missing Xtra cast members, Director displays a red X as a placeholder. In short, the QuickTime Asset Xtra allows Director to access properties of QuickTime QTVR's, such as masks and hotspots. It allows Lingo-level control over QTVR movies in Director and is fully compatible with both the PC and Mac. |
